My experience with the implementation of the "Farmacia Popular"

Hello everyone, today I am going to talk a little bit about the health system in Chile. But not in a general way, because I want to explain briefly why I think the implementation of a “Farmacia Popular” was a great addition to improve certain points in the health system of our country.

First of all, I want to explain my health situation. I am a very allergic person, is that so that I have to take three different medications in one day: an antiallergic (Rupatadine), a nasal spray (Avamys) and lastly, montelukast (a medicament meant to treat bronchial asthma and annual allergies). The last one, is a very expensive medicine. So, it's difficult to me and my family to paid for this drug every month or so.

In this sense, that is why the implementation of the “Popular Pharmacy” has been of great help to me in this regard and in others. First, in this place you can find medicine much cheaper than in other places. This is my case with the montelukast, although still expensive, the price is much lower than in other drugs stores. Also, some medical checks are free or very cheap. Ideal to someone like me that use glasses because have myopia and astigmatism. In this sense, this specific pharmacy allows me to perform free or low-cost eye exams.

So, this was my personal take in why the implementation of a “Farmacia Popular” is ideal to people who have some medical problems like me.

I hope that you can find this interesting. Don't hesitate to leave your comments and opinions about this topic.

  3. Very interesting, but at the same time it is worrying that (good) ideas like these have to come up to counteract injustices such as inequality in access to health

  6. Hello, I found this post very interesting because I also suffer from allergies, in fact I have had various attacks called anaphylactic allergy shocks for which I have had to follow very expensive treatments and also change my diet. However, I do not have to take the amount of medications that you take, so I am happy to know that someone with a problem similar to mine can qualify for benefits such as popular pharmacies and be able to follow their treatments
