Review: The Tree of Life (2011)

Image
Hello everyone, today I am going to do a little review about the film "The Tree of Life" (2011). "The Tree of Life" is a 2011 American film written and directed by Terrence Malick. The cast is composed by Brad Pitt (Mr. O'Brien), Jessica Chastain (Mrs. O'Brien), Sean Penn (Jack O'Brien), and Hunter McCracken as young Jack.  The story of the film consists in a lot of raccontos or flashback -whatever you prefer- of an adult Jack.  Who reflect on his childhood, the death of one of his brothers in Vietnam and the creation of the universe.  So, the film is an epic, existential journey through the cosmos and his creation.  Nonetheless, is easy to fool yourself thinking that this film is an all out war epic.   Where there are a lot of gigantic set pieces and battles.  Especifically, the feature film is an experimental drama recorded, most of the time, with a camera on the shoulder.   Also, It is important to say that the film is very long.   Approximatel...

An advice for a high school student

Today, I am going to write a little advice for all the high schools students who are thinking about to go to college. Personally, my college experience had been mark with the contemporany health situation that we are living. I haven´t been in my college in a face to face scenario, so I don't have that type of experience. In this virtual college that I am assisting, I recommend learning all about Google Drive, who has been my best friend this semester. The possibility of a limitless "hard drive" (at least if you are in Universidad de Chile) is extremely useful. I have all the ppts of the classes and pdfs organized by different variables, and my notes about them, without the need of wrtitting it in paper. So I am decreasing the use of paper to a minimum. Which is helpful to avoid waste. Other recommendation is trying to develop study habits, because there are weeks where are a lot of homeworks and test together, so it is important that you don´t have to start study or doi...

Is religion important to me?

Hello everyone, today i want to answer if religion is an important subject to me as a person. Personally, i grew up with a family where my father is an atheist, but his family is catholic, and my mother is semi-catholict (she doesn't have a strong link with the church and the festivities but have been baptized). In my case, i was baptized and i did the first Communion, but i was never too close with the catholic church or religion. So, i don't consider myself as a 100% catholict, because i don't follow the catholic way of life, for example, i don´t go to church every sunday. But i don't consider myself as an atheist. I see myself as a person who is constantly thinking and wondering about subject of existentialism, like the meaning of death, without a strong answer. With all this in mind, i don´t consider religion as something so important to me, but that doesn't mean that i don't understand the people who this subject is important to them. As an anthropologist ...

My experience with the implementation of the "Farmacia Popular"

Hello everyone, today I am going to talk a little bit about the health system in Chile. But not in a general way, because I want to explain briefly why I think the implementation of a “Farmacia Popular” was a great addition to improve  certain  points in the health system of our country.   First of all, I want to explain my health situation. I am a very allergic person, is that so that I have to take three different medications in one day: an antiallergic (Rupatadine), a nasal spray ( Avamys ) and lastly, montelukast (a medicament meant to treat  bronchial asthma and   annual allergies). The last one, is a very expensive medicine. So, it's difficult to me and my family to paid for this drug every month or so.    In this sense, that is why the implementation of the “Popular Pharmacy” has been of great help to me in this regard and in others. First, in this place you can find medicine much cheaper than in other places. This...

The importance of voting and your freedom of choice

Hello, today I am going to write a little about my opinion about voting.   Like a lot of you should know, voting is an important part of the democratic system. We as citizens have the opportunity of choosing our government, the people who represents our ideas and opinions. But what happens when the people we choose don’t make their promises? Well, the answer that we have seen recently in our politic scenery is a low participation in the different elections of our country. The political class doesn´t care or doesn´t know how to fulfill the basic social and economics necessities of a lot of people, especially now with the pandemic hitting hard in the population. Obviously, this culminates in a total disenchantment with politics, especially with the right of vote.   Vote is our voice, is our identity as citizens of a larger society that surrounds us. So that is why I make the call that if you don´t have a representant of your liking or you don't believe anymore in our poli...
