The importance of voting and your freedom of choice

Hello, today I am going to write a little about my opinion about voting.

Like a lot of you should know, voting is an important part of the democratic system. We as citizens have the opportunity of choosing our government, the people who represents our ideas and opinions. But what happens when the people we choose don’t make their promises? Well, the answer that we have seen recently in our politic scenery is a low participation in the different elections of our country. The political class doesn´t care or doesn´t know how to fulfill the basic social and economics necessities of a lot of people, especially now with the pandemic hitting hard in the population. Obviously, this culminates in a total disenchantment with politics, especially with the right of vote.

Vote is our voice, is our identity as citizens of a larger society that surrounds us. So that is why I make the call that if you don´t have a representant of your liking or you don't believe anymore in our political class, instead of not going to vote, go and vote null. This way you are making a physical call about your disconformity, instead of letting the others pretend to be blind and choose for you. This could see as if you are not voting, but is not the same: you are occupying your voice as a citizen at the same time that you are not voting for someone you might feel ashamed of in the future.

Well, that is my humble opinion. Feel free of putting your opinions in the comments.

  3. I agree with you about voting nullm if none of the candidates represents me, and in my opinion I also think that we shouldn't stop there and take an active role in other political instances, because if the politicians can't or won't change things, maybe we can

  4. I share your vision. And I personally think that in the last elections it was fully demonstrated that who governs DOES matter, so voting is important.
